“It can be devastating to find out that your dog has cancer. This is the time to have a serious talk with your vet about the next steps. In general, cancer treatment should be started as soon as possible. Not only can it slow the progression of the cancer, it can also help alleviate the symptoms of cancer.
Recommended cancer treatments depend on the location, type and severity of the cancer. Once a cancer diagnosis has been made, your primary vet may recommend a consultation with a veterinary oncologist or other specialist. Board-certified specialists are veterinarians who have completed extra training in their chosen specialty and passed a set of rigorous examinations. An oncologist will discuss treatment options and give you a prognosis based upon your dog’s specific condition.”
