WHY IS DOGVILLE DIFFERENT? REASON #3: SPECIAL CARE & SAFETY PROTOCOLS DURING SEVERE WEATHER

2016-04-27

At Dogville, we have severe weather protocols in place. When the forecast calls for severe weather, we immediately update the staff and initiate the protocol. We monitor the weather on television and our computers all day so we can be up to date on the status of any storms headed our way. Once we know they are coming, we put thunder shirts on the dogs we know are sensitive to storms, administer any medications that owners may have included in their belongings and set up fans and classical music to create background “white noise.” The staff knows where the safe areas are in both buildings and we have crates and leashes close by in the event of a tornado warning. During thunderstorms, our staff is up and constantly monitoring the dogs in our care. We use lavender for aromatherapy to help calm the dogs, too. Most of all, we do a lot of cuddling and calming dogs that are frightened when severe weather strikes. Someday, I hope to have a big in-ground storm cellar for storm season, but until then, we will do everything we can to keep your babies safe.
